I did read these. Most of them earlier today. I thought this was the most telling comment in the lot:
# My daughter is a student at an exemplary/blue ribbon elementary school in Flower Mound, which is under Lewisville ISD. Our art teacher took the THIRD graders to the Dallas Museum of Art. She explained ahead of time that there would be some nudes in paintings/sculptures and this information went home on the permission slip. I went along as a parent helper and, with the exception of a few giggles, there were never any problems. Our art teacher was voted Teacher of the Year at LISD in the past. It's a shame that the principal and superintendent have caved in to the complaint of one parent. Frisco parents should not be silent on this issue. # I wouldn't characterize the community as nutty. I would characterize (with the assumptions that the teacher WAS fired due to complaints from parents, and that the parent complained due to the nude art), that advocating the firing of a teacher for taking kids to a public art museum _is_ nutty. I would characterize the board (assuming they fired the teacher due to the complaints) as either spineless cowards, or as sycophants and suckups (depending on why they caved to pressure from the parents). I would characterize the principal as poor manager with no backbone (assuming the principal did not back up the art teacher 100% against all comers). If, on the other hand, the board or the principal just USED the complaint about the teacher as an excuse for the firing, and it turns out the parent did NOT agitate for the firing, but just lodged a simple complaint, then I will need to eat all of my words about THIS being an example of overzealous religious fervor, and instead start complaining about people abusing their authority and using their power for evil. Which annoys me WAY more. I also read the demographics for Frisco, which is a rich, white, exclusive suburb of Dallas. Dallas may be diverse, Frisco is not very. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Introducing the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update. 80 pages of hard-hitting, up-to-date ColdFusion information by your peers, delivered to your door four times a year. http://www.fusionauthority.com/quarterly Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:216279 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
