What would you consider to be good medical coverage? For example, we're all on Kaiser Permanente, which believe it or not has been excellent for the past sixteen years, but it costs us about $727 per month (plus $25 co-pay) between David's policy and the family plan for me, Lisa, and the kids. And you know this is just going to go up again big time next year.
Continuing from my previous post, how does qualifying for coverage figure into hiring? What if a potential employee is turned down for coverage? How do companies handle that, typically? Respectfully, Adam In my current position, I pay about $90 per bi-weekly paycheck for medical coverage. This puts me in a Blue Shield HMO plan with good medical coverage. I have the benefit of working for larger (500+ employees) companies for most of the last decade. They offer multiple plans. With my family's medical conditions, we have not qualified for the better PPO plans, so have to used the HMO plans which usually cost a bit more, offer a few less niceties, but do not turn down based on pre-existing conditions. For smaller companies, you need to find a good benefits broker that can help you get a good plan at a good cost for you and your employee(s). As I mentioned before, I quote nearly double my desired rate when I have been recruited over the last few years for positions that offered little or no insurance. Because of this, I have not found a position that would entice me to leave this one, even though, as a non-profit, I am paid a bit less then the going rate for a developer like me in this area. Just last Friday, this company announced that it will absorb the insurance increase for the fiscal year that started October 1st and not pass any of it on to the employees; a nice plus for me. -------------- Ian Skinner Web Programmer BloodSource www.BloodSource.org Sacramento, CA --------- | 1 | | --------- Binary Soduko | | | --------- "C code.
