That's just not true. My testing PC (with which I tested the Vista beta) is several years old and had no problems at all. Areo IS graphics intensive (although not nearly as much as any modern game) - but can also be disabled. You lose very little functionality (pretty much pretty glass and flip 3D are it). I'm running Vista like this on my "workbench PC" in the garage - a Celeron 800 with 512 Meg of RAM and Intel Onboard Video - it does just fine. (For what it's worth running Vista in a virtual machine will be almost identical to this.) If you've bought a high-end PC (namely high-end graphics) within the last three, perhaps even four, I should think you'd be fine with Vista. Still - Vista will show up more on new PCs than as upgrades in any case. If XP is working for you now there's not a whole lot of reason to upgrade right away. In any case I would rather plan for the future than hamstring the product for backwards compatibility (although it is amazingly backwards compatible).
