No, because they tie their harware and software upgrades together.

You can't get that new OS you want, unless you also get that new machine you

Ok, someone in this thread specifically mentioned the time frame of 18
months in the thread.

Moore's law basically says what? processor speeds will doble, and the size
of memory wil be halved, something like that right?

Ok, so lets say they start a new OS, timing it's release for 18 months in
the futre, they will want to get at least a year or two out of it right?  So
when they start developing they target highend systems, because they that by
the time they are releasing their product these special high end items
should, and usually are, the norm.

If you wrote a video game that had to perform as well on a 2 year old
system, as it does on a brand new system, it wouldn't be a very visually
appealing game would it?
