Well... yeah.

On the same hardware OS X is MUCH slower than OS 9 and OS 9 is much slower
than OS 8 (although in many cases you simply can't upgrade Macs across these
OSs).

There's a reason that all Major Mac OS releases are coupled with nearly
complete refreshes of the hardware lines.

Reading this article you can pretty much freely exchange "Vista" for "OS/X".
