That's likely because you've never risked much.  I'm not talking about
taking a new client or not - I'm talking about possibly screwing
yourself for life.

If you're plenty comfortable, the thought of that risk is really scary
because you have to a little messed up to consider it in the first
place.

But, in the end, I would just do what everyone else does: get dual
citizenship and keep the taxable portion of my US income below the
line.

In fact, I have an acquaintance who lives down the road from John
LeCarre in Switzerland.  They'd rather pay taxes there.  So that's
what happens when you tax upper income.
