Will Swain wrote: "The Talebans oppression of human rights was played up to
win the media war, and public support. Retribution, revenge, global
policing, oil.....any of these
maybe, but not the protection of human rights."

To which Beth replied, specifically about the "oil" statement: "So, we
waited until bin laden killed thousands of our citizens to get support so we
could go get oil? This is incredibly stupid."

To which you, Gel, replied: "Why is this stupid."

The logical inference is that you believe that the primary, if not whole
issue, of the US attack on Afghanistan is oil.

Since Afghanistan has no oil reserves, how could this even have played a
factor?

Unless you care to retract your defense of Will's original statement, which
Beth criticized, and you criticized Beth's criticism, I don't believe that
you can logically accuse me of misunderstanding or misconstruing what you
said. It's pretty darn clear what you said.

I never implied that it was 'just about oil', but this would have played
a factor, and is something to consider seriously as the "War On Terror"
.like the "War On Drugs" ..continues.

You are deliberately misunderstanding and misconstruing what I said.
Which is why it is pointless to attempt to discuss this with you.

Umm ... because there's a real threat?

The idea that this is all about oil is a notion that is just beyond
comprehension.

Do you really believe that the US has gotten sympathy because of oil?
"Oh, poor US, their oil supply is in danger. We better let them go bomb
Afghanistan."

How would the United States have gotten worldwide sympathy and support
for a move like that otherwise?

How would they get worldwide support to oust Saddam Hussein so long
after Desert Storm unless under the asupices of the "War On Terror"?

How could Ashcroft, Lieberman and their cronies say that "Americans must
finally realise that their freedoms need to be restricted after the
events of September 11th..." with impunity and finally pass laws that
were struck down repeatedly when they came up for review in the past if
not under the umbrella of new "Homeland Security"?
