I will absolutely recommend U-verse 100% ... in about a year or so. They need to get some serious bugs in the DVR worked out before I can enthusiastically say to someone, YES! Go get it!
But if a DVR is not on your list of needs ... YES! Go get it! And I say that even after being with Time Warner and loving it for 5 years (I even worked for TW and still loved it). - digital channel package: is awesome ... flat out ... you get way more channels than any other provider in the area, even in the cheap packages. Beware the sports channels, though. You pay extra for a sports package, and channels you would think would be included (like FSMW), are not. Bummer if you're a Cardinals fan like me! If you don't have a sports package you get, like, ESPN, and that's about it. And the best thing is, the channels are ORGANIZED in an intuitive manner. For example, all the home and garden and cooking channels are together, all the news channels are together, the kids channels are together, etc. Easy to surf around. And you can remove channels that you don't watch from the guide to make surfing faster. Also, when you're surfing the guide, when you hit a channel a little box comes up to show what's playing on that channel without leaving the channel you're currently watching. - HD quality: can't really speak to this one as the only HD tv we have in the house is a tiny LCD in my office ... I can't tell a difference between the picture on the big TVs and this one, which is hooked up to the HD receiver. I probably have it hooked up wrong or configured wrong ... I'm not exactly HD-savvy. But they have 20+ HD channels available (maybe more -- haven't really looked in a while) - Internet reliability: this is where U-verse ROCKS ... internet is always up, 100%, it's never gone down in the 6 months we've had it. And I'd say it's 2x faster than Time Warner, at least, maybe more. - basic service: when we first hooked it up in May, there was a bit of pixellation, especially during bad weather. However, AT&T has pushed several updates this summer and that's taken care of this. I don't notice it anymore than I did with TW. Maybe every once in a while for a brief second. A few other raves: The customer service is superb. If your service falters or you have any other kind of problem they give credits to your bill at the drop of a hat. The people on the phone know their stuff and are very helpful. And (this pertains more to the DVR) you can search for and schedule recording over the internet -- really this is the only good thing about the DVR, but it's really cool. A few things to watch out for: - installation: usually takes 8-10 hours. Yes, 8-10, and they're there the whole time. Expect to take a day off of work and be in the house with the installer all day. But the installers are terrific. They're sharp, they understand the technology, and they're very nice people. Our installer, Carrie, had to come back a few times because of a problem in the line going to our apt. She just had a great attitude about the whole thing and made absolutely sure before she left the last time that everything worked and we were happy with our service. - wireless: for some reason, and YMMV, it was a bitch to get our wireless network set up and running consistently. For some reason my laptop just couldn't find the network consistently and it would keep dropping the connection at random times for no reason. Don't know why, but one day not too long after we got it, the problems just stopeed and I haven't had an issue since then. Here is a good site, not run by AT&T, but U-verse employees pay attention to, for more info: http://www.uverseusers.com/ >Shawna, my wife and I have been debating moving to U-verse.
