I actually like Comcast: I've had them in Boston and now in Scranton. In
both cases they let me set up my network... there really wasn't even a
option for them to do it. At least where I've been it's been totally hands
off in that regard: they support the line to the house that's it.

I LOVED them in Boston - the Motorola Dual DVR box they used were great (and
those are the boxes that will be upgraded to the TIVO software once it's
ready). They offered a lot of extras and constantly improved service (more
HD channels, faster broadband, free software, etc) all without raising the
bill. Great Video on Demand service, great web portal, great service, etc -
nothing but good to say.

In Scranton it's a different story. We had Adelphia and they were bought
out by Comcast. So now we see "Comcast" on the bill but we're still using
the old Scientific Atlantic box from Adelphia. We're still limited to the
really crappy Adelphia VOD service and the truly AWFUL Adelphia DVR. We did
get more HD channels when they took over at least.

The internet service is still great (we just got a nice free speed boost,
they provide free multiple licenses for McAfee protection, a free GigaNews
account, etc) - that's pretty much all transitioned to Comcast servers and
infrastructure.

They are more expensive than in Boston for the same service level (albeit on
crappier hardware, which I assume is to pay for the transition).

They're definitely still trading on goodwill left over from the Boston
experience but I'm going to give them some more slack since almost all of my
problems are still, essentially, Adelphia's (damn, I HATED Adelphia). I'm
really looking forward to the new TIVO-enabled software (which should mean a
new box to replace these crap ones).
