It occurred to me that I've debated this issue quite a bit, but I don't know if I've ever really spelled out what I believe, though I've probably said most of the below at one time or another, just not all at once:
I believe there is a creator. I do not pretend to know the nature of this creator. I believe the universe started with a big bang how many ever billions and billions of years ago. I believe the creator, of course, was the author of this big bang. I believe that for the most part, the creator set in motion the universe as we know it and though the universe has existed mostly without the creator's intervention, the creator has dipped his finger into the soup from time to time. The universe has evolved. Creatures have evolved. All of this was part of the creators design. I am not entirely sure of the creator's purpose, but I like to believe that it was so that a certain number of intelligent, feeling creatures such as humans could come to life, come to knowledge and come into fellowship with him -- not be cause the creator needs fellowship, but because the creator wanted fellowship. I believe the universe and all it's creatures have bits of the creator in it or them. For humans, one thing we have in the creators image is our creativity, possibly also our humor and our love. I believe that at one time the universe, or our part of it, was a paradise of sorts and that man could have perfect fellowship with the creator, but because the creator endowed use with free will and ego (necessary to know true love), we had the ability to rebel and we did. (Original Sin). I believe that the creator wanted to reveal himself to us and has used nature to reveal himself, but also he felt the need to speak with us directly about who he is and what he wants, and he INSIPIRED certain religious writings, specifically the Bible. The inspired writers, having knowledge limited by their time and place, did their best to interpret in human terms the creator's inspired terms, and thusly, the creator became known as God (or the ancient language equivalent terms). I believe that the third stage of God's attempt to communicate with us, as prophesied, was to come to earth in human form and walk among us and that the person who was God among us was Jesus Christ, who was born of virgin birth. But Jesus was largely rejected by his peers because of the free will and ego that caused the fall in the first place, so he was killed, in body and died in body and on the third day rose again from the dead and ascended to heaven after a period of time of fellowship with his followers. I believe that He will return again some day and establish the Kingdom of God on earth, thereby fulfilling the final Old Testament prophecies. The last few graphs, I know, get a little sectarian, and I apologize to any I have offended. That was not my intention ... but I felt that if I was going to go on record with what I believe, I should carry the train of thought through to the end. I normally try to avoid sectarian comments on this list, but felt I should be clear in this case about what I believe. ______________________________________________________________________ Your ad could be here.
