yes, this is true, or something like it is. I think it may be the Academy or something. But yes, the concern is with words like "OK" and "skidoo" and "tractor" creeping into the language. Unlike English, which is rather like Ankh-Morpork in this regard, the French intelligentsia feels quite strongly that French does *not* import its words from English, lol, so someone actually sits down and decides what the correct word will be for "web site" and "typewriter" and "computer" <g> taking care along the way to avoid all evil Saxon gerunds and contractions lol....
one of my least favorite things about the French. New ideas are not easily adopted and then you wind up with a Ligne Maginot.
