>No, I am not buying it. Violent people are hardwired that way. OK what data can you cite that supports that. An opinion is not worth anything unless you have research to back it up.
> A game does >not make you violent. ONE game does not. But a lifetime of violence being positively reinforced does mean violent and aggressive behavior. The guy that sparked this thread was built from the >ground up as an uncompassionate, violent prick. Just because some of the >more violent among us are sometimes drawn to these types of games does not >mean that the games make them that way. In this instance, I will side with >nature over nurture. Mortal Combat had nothing to do with this. Then what does the research say? That there is no relationship? Going all the way back to the late 1950's both retrospective and prospective studies have shown a very strong relationship between violent video games and aggressive thoughts and behaviors. This research is based on data collected from now hundreds of thousands of people. But then again that hard data pales before the wisdom of your unsupported opinion. So in essence what you are saying is that there is no cure or preventative measures that will work. So what do we do? Are you saying that given that since violence is hardwired, we should give up completely and carpet bomb anywhere where there is violence? That the philosophies of Mohatma Ghandi and Jesus Christ are useless and should be ignored? That approach to me is simply ignorant, and ignores the strong human potential for change. But then it fits within the ideologies of the more odious brands of politics as practiced in the US, ie institutionalized racism and lynching. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;160198600;22374440;w Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:249396 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
