It's a public schools job to teach accepted theory and science. ID is neither.
Science can debunk much of ID simply by carbon 14 dating, which puts the age of the Earth at tens of billions of years old, not the 6000 years as put forth by ID. Don't get me wrong I believe in a creator, and that there is a design behind nature, but I believe the design is being (and meant to be) discovered by scientist, not pseudo-politics disguised as religion. When I was reading my daughters science book, they did have Darwin's Theory in a chapter. I read the whole chapter and it only presented the pro-Darwinism argument and offered absolutely no counter-argument. This ID document I just read actually says that they should teach Evolution, but not teach only pro-Darwinism but teach the critiques of Darwinism as well. And, they do NOT advocate forcing the teachings of ID in the classroom, but rather say that if a science teacher WANTS to teach ID, they should, but only if informed enough to teach it responsibly.
