It can be accepted ONLY if the very definition of science is changed.

That was one of the more dramatic moments in the Dover trial: when Michael
Behe (one of the shining stars of the ID community) was forced to admit
after he broadened the definition of "science" enough to include ID that
astrology would also need to be included as "real science" if his definition
was to make any reasonable sense.

He also asserted under cross-examination that his definition of "Theory" was
essentially identical to the accepted scientific definition of "hypothesis".
