At my high school, Religious Education was compulsory. We did
comparative religions in year one and I was top of the class. We did
the New Testament for the next three years and I was bottom of the
class. I have no problem with such a course (although I would require
that it was *optional*). I got into some pretty heated discussions in
RE, especially with Rev. Hughes who taught the New Testament years (I
got on well with Rev. Cotterell who taught comparative religion) and
Rev. Hughes marked me down for not believing and often held my answers
up for ridicule by the other almost unanimously Christian students but
I held my ground (and it set the stage for my public speaking and my
debating skills later in life I guess).

I don't want religion suppressed, I just want it clearly labeled as
separate from science - and clearly kept separate from state
government. If I wanted a religious government, I'd go live in Iran ;)
