And y'know why Syria abstained from last week's UN Security Council vote re: Palestinian state etc.? Because the language referred to a state "alongside Israel" and this would be anathema to Syria, which heavily funds Hizbollah guerillas in Lebanon, and will accept *nothing less* than the destruction of the State of Israel. Yet they are our "friends"?
