Sugar free does not mean carbohydrate free, frequently a so called sugar free 
version of a food has more grams of carbohydrates than the version with sugar 
in it. Read the nutritional label to be sure.

Also remember that fats delay the absorption of sugars so you end up with 
elevated levels of glucose for longer periods than if you did not have the food 
with the fat in it.

Myself I mainly go for fresh fruits these days. Fresh blueberries are a great 
alternative.
