My first inclination was "how dare she!"... but then I actually started to
think about it...

Would he really be in this position if he weren't black? I mean clearly he
has skills, intelligence and all the other stuff. Honestly I don't mind: if
being black is an aide in this situation well then, good for him. That
pendulum is long overdue for some swinging.

At the same time tho' I do think there's some real validity to a number of
his criticisms.

He is inexperienced. He just is. It's not a death knell, but I do think
some seasoning would have gone a long way for him. I fear that his lofty
ideals will find little purchase in a political machine he's only beginning
to understand.

He's young. He'd be our third youngest president (only Kennedy and T.
Roosevelt would be younger). Of course neither Kennedy or Roosevelt could
be considered "bad presidents" so that's probably an empty issue, but again,
I think another four to eight years in Washington would have helped him
greatly.

I love his speaking, he's incredibly powerful... but I also have to agree
(partially) with those that see a lot of smoke but not much fire. I'm not
in that camp that claims he's a charismatic façade, but I would like to see
a little more meat and a little less sizzle.

That said I think comments like those above are just plain stupid. Even if
the question is reasonable (and I actually think it may be) it won't even be
considered as such in this climate. Any comment even grazing the race issue
is going to bite you in the ass, no question. To think that you can somehow
skirt that is ignorant.

My opinions may change tomorrow- I'm really just mulling things- but that's
the direction my thoughts are taking.

(For what it's worth I don't think Hilary is in a significantly better
position than Obama for much of this. In the interest of full disclosure
I'm leaning more and more towards McCain...)
