I hate political correctness, but don't you think it's a little underhanded
for Ferraro to imply that Obama is the 'affirmative action' candidate; that
an equally qualified white candidate would be an also-ran?

Probably not. Is it because she's a former first lady? Would be a better
question.

Americans LOVE a novel candidate (out of millions upon millions of eligible
Americans through history we've had TWO father/son presidents and a
grandfather/grandson presidents... what are the freakin' chances? We also
like war heroes, actors and cripples... oh, and fat guys.)

I'd make two points:

1) Asking the question isn't inherently wrong. Political correctness has
quieted discourse - that's a bad thing. Asking the questions "would a white
guy with the same credentials be in this position?" or "would another woman
with the same credentials (but not a former first lady) be in the same
position?" aren't inherently racist/sexist.

If nothing else self-examination, at least, is a good thing: if these
candidates come to terms with these potentials they can better focus on
their strengths.

2) Neither of these candidates really has a leg to stand on in this area...
so either of them bringing it up is a ridiculously stupid move that's going
to hurt themselves as badly or worse than the opponent. If we had one truly
experienced candidate making such accusations they might ring more truly...
but we don't.

I DO think Hillary as more experience than Obama (at least more Washington
experience; quite a bit more in fact) but not be so much that these kind of
arguments can't backfire.
