I watch a great show a few months ago. Kind of an investigative report
style. They went to other countries and compared there health care from all
angles and we are really behind other nations when it comes to excisable
health care. Japan's general health care is amazing it's like going through
the drive thru at a fast food restaurant. But everyone gets what they need
and had very little to complain about. You can stop by the doctor's office
on the way to work and be in and out in just a few minutes. There is a cap
on the cost.. The downfall was major procedures take more time and if you're
a doctor you can't just up the price because Insurance will pay it. Doctors
get paid a flat Salary from the government. NO INSURANCE.

That would never work in our country...

Oh an I am not saying Japan has all the answers.. When the show was over
each country had a downside.

They looked at Germany, India, England and a few others.

I wish I could remember what show it was it would be cool to see it again.

I think the more fundamental problem is that 'insurance' is not compatible
with the way that healthcare functions.

What other type of insurance (besides health/dental) pays a claim for
preventative measures?

What other type of insurance do we sign up for with 99% certainty that we
are going to file a claim?

What other type of insurance collects a premium knowing with 100% certainty
you are going to file a claim?

Except for health insurance, all other forms of insurance protect the
insured person (or that person's beneficiaries). Health insurance exists to
protect doctors and hospitals from the risk of providing services without
receiving payment. Surely you have noticed that health insurance claim
payments never pass through your hands??

"Thus THE ONLY solution *for America* is to create a well-regulated market
that controls cost with the power of the consumer."

That's a pipe dream. The power of the consumer is only relevant to elective
services in which the consumer actually pays for it. If my wife needed an
emergency C-section, I don't think I would drive all over town to find the
hospital with the best price.

"Thus if you replace the insurer with the government you've haven't touched
cost. And do you think doctors are going to lower their cost because the
government tells them too? Hell no."

Actually they do it every day. It's called Medicare and Medicaid.

That, by the way, is the exact reason why Universal Health Care won't work.
Here's why:

(1.) There's 3 parties involved: patient, insurer, provider (doctor).

(2.) The job of the insurer is to spread the cost out for the patient so the
patient doesn't get hit with a $100M bill they can't pay.

(3.) But who's sending the $100M bill? The doctor.

Thus if you replace the insurer with the government you've haven't touched
cost. And do you think doctors are going to lower their cost because the
government tells them too? Hell no.

Now the real commies would say, "we'll force them to!" Guess what happens
to quality? It goes in the crapper. Guess what happens to research?
crapper. Guess what happens to innovation? crapper.

Thus THE ONLY solution *for America* is to create a well-regulated market
that controls cost with the power of the consumer.
