This same quote from the book made it's way around the tubes last fall. During one of the talks we have out on the tennis courts (while the kids in the apartment complex play and ride bikes), a number of the people in our building who are or were Muslims agreed with this sentiment, and cited the fear they had for their own governments as a top reason they had moved to the US. They said they feel safer and freer to practice their religion and culture here, as a minority, than they did in the countries where they were born and were in the cultural and religious majority.
Not that the US is rosy or perfect, but that they don't live daily in fear. They _do_ feel fear, though, with some of the brainless, drunk, South Boston racists confront them in front of their kids, but that is more psychological effect on the kids than physical danger. And, by the way, the Muslims in the apartment next to me are not evil (their 12 year old is mean, though, for whipping me at tennis, and then laughing). =) On Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 1:40 PM, G Money <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 12:11 PM, Beth In Alaska <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Yes, i agree. > > > > I think that the moral of the story is that religion and government don't > > mix.
