Umm, this may be out of date or this may be a regional thing, but for the 1 month that I got public assistance back in 2000 this is exactly what I had to do. Before I got my food stamp card I had to got to a consoler and our family had to sign an agreement that we where getting aid for us and our two kids and that was it.
