And, actually, if those issues (gun control, abortion) are important
to you then the selection is much more impactful than for taxes.

Tax policy requires Congress and both parties have proven themselves
to be either tax-n-spend or tax-n-borrow.

The point is, the President will directly appoint the Supreme Court
and voting against a nominee is typically fairly hairy.  On the other
side, passing tax bills is fairly easy.  Look at Bush - he didn't veto
bill for 6 or 7 years.

That is, with taxes there's no guarantee no matter who's elected what
will happen.  With abortion the election is critical.
