It's fucking scary, is what it is.  An all knowing government might
*seem* safer, on the surface, but..

Holy crap is it scary.  At least to me, personally.

We part ways here, basically.  I don't give a damn that X bad things
were prevented by circumventing what I hold to be a basic right, ya
know?

Same thing I told that cop, who stopped me at the county line:  I
would prefer a free country, over a "safe" one.

Bottom line, I guess, is that I'm an asshole, who doesn't care that
Bad Things can happen when you live in a free society.

It doesn't sound like you've got a healthy mistrust going, which is
surprising, for a self-labeled conservative.

aren't US Citizens, which I know bugs the crap out of folk.
