re: Jews and Chinese restaurants: in Miami Beach, went with my grandfather to the "Peking Embassy Kosher Chinese Restaurant".
Carafes of seltzer water. Matzoh ball soup. And actually very tasty food but of course no pork or shellfish, no dairy. Proprietor in yarmulke (don't know about cooks!). Bad, bad pun: met a Chinese gentleman who grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, knew a lot about the culture. I had the nerve to ask him: "the Jewish calendar is hundreds of years older than the Chinese calendar. Know what that means? For a *long* time we didn't have any good take-out!" Fortunately, he wasn't offended, thought it was a crack-up. -Ben > -----Original Message----- > From: Beth F [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, April 08, 2002 2:22 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: Egypt: Land of the Gods > > > > > > re: "culture" not religion - no matter, you be good people! > > Thank you. > > > > > re: Bat Mitzvah dissuasion - bummer it was slanted > > Well, I don't know that I really wanted one but it burned me > that my mother > dismissed my bat mitzvah as unneccesary when my brothers was > required.
