Under what scenario do you possibly see bi-partisanship if McCain
wins? Even if he's the most bi-partisan guy in the world there are
forces at play he can't and won't control:

(1.) Social Conservatives. He needed Palin to wrap up the fundie
base. They like her and not him. If he tacks away from her he loses
them, but there's no way Dems will EVER budge in that direction. Most
centrists and moderates including in his own party are supporting or
have openly endorsed Obama.

(2.) Democrats. If Obama loses, Democratic vision stays with Pelosi
and Reid. Plus they likely get more House control and thus more of a
mandate. They'll fight like badgers to hold their lefty tack and
won't budge an inch. We've already seen that, and it ain't gonna
change it'll only get worse.

(3.) Mandate. If McCain wins it'll be by the slimmest of margins and
the nation and the World will freak. There'll be riots, protests,
mass unrest. McCain will have to convince a nation and world that his
vision will work. That'll be tough and maybe impossible.

(4.) Himself #1. McCain is a low-government conservative and clearly
unsure (hey, so am I) about how to approach this economic crisis.
Unfortunately it's going to take massive government intervention and
neither I nor McCain are the right guys for that.

(5.) Himself #2. McCain is poor manager and a gut decision maker.
We've already seen him bounce around like a ping pong ball in this
crisis and given the flight of the moderates to Obama he's got a weak
bench.

If he does win I wish him the best of course, but I don't see how
positions himself to succeed.
