You do realize that a lot of our current laws (theft and murder, for example) are based on religious beliefs?
You do realize that the a lot of the framers of the Constitution were men of faith? Sorry, but comparing a small minority of conservatives to the Taliban is as offensive and ridiculous as comapring a small group or liberals to socialists or marxists. I am not a religious person. However, I do not think that laws based on religious principles (such as though shalt not covet thy neighbors goods) are necessarily a bad thing, i would like to think that any resonable person would agree to this point. Though, I do agree that it is a slippery slope if it is taken to far. For example, I think one reasn why people are so against 'gay marriage' is that the same word, 'marriage' is used to descibe the civil union as recognized by the government as well as to describe a religous event. I think Judah has mentioned this before and he is the only other person I have heard/read who feels the same way I do. I do not think religions should be forced to allow gay couples to get married in their churches, temples, etc., but I do think that gay couples shoud have the same rights to own property together, have employer benefits available to the spouse in a same sex couple and other rights heterosexual coples have that homosexual couples do not. To me, the change can be simple, just replace the word 'marriage' with 'civil union' on every government form, license, etc. On Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 10:35 AM, Larry Lyons <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >I find the possiblity that a candidate could replace the constitution with > a > >'religious theocracy' (what other kind of theocracy could you have anyway) > >is more far fetched than one replacing the constitution with Marxism or > >other solcialistic philosphies. > > > >Lastly, I find the term 'American Taliban' offensive and demonizing. > > As I said google dominionism and tell me that it doesn't fit the same > description as the Taliban.
