This is a common fallacy.
most of the Founding fathers were NOT religious Christians,
the majority were either Deists or Agnostics.

Washington,Jefferson,Adams and Franklin are some examples of classic
examples of Deists who filled out the ranks of the 18th Century intellectual
society.

Jefferson himself pointed out that the system of Common Law in the US had
been around for centuries even before Christianity had been brought to the
British Isles.

During the 5th Sitting of Congress, the US Senate voted unanimously on
passing into Law a treaty which stated that , *"the Government of the United
States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian
religion..."

*These men took GREAT care to sever any perceived link between the ideals
and the formation of the US Constitution, and any religion. Particularly the
predominant Christian religion of the time.

This has not, however, stopped religious folk from believing that the United
States is founded on Christian principles, as with most religious beliefs,
truth does not play a part.
