One final thought. I really can't afford any more time to try to defend my opinion on this, nor do I really feel I should have to.
However in closing let me just say this. Throughout the last few days a very few people, namely David, have tried to have me rethink my opinion. He's been thought provoking, respectful and insightful. He's tried to encourage me to change my mind by drawing comparisons to my own life without being forceful about it. The majority of you who disagree with me have painted me with a broad brush and tried to FORCE your opinion on me. I've been called names, personally insulted, had my words taken out of context and twisted and have often been treated with intolerance and disrespect. This type of behaviour only forces one to become galvanized on a position that I had admittedly not thoroughly thought through. When I've admitted there are flaws in my opinion I'm then attacked for not standing by it rather than nurtured toward changing it. It's like you'd rather have an argument than change a mind. If the overall goal here is to change people's minds and hearts you cannot do it by force. If people continue to take a heavy handed approach you are simply going to force one to defend a position that I'm sure many only half-heartedly (and half-minded) adhere to. Don't get so geared up for a fight that you lose your chance and converting "the enemy." This is my last post on this topic. I will continue to think this through and will discuss more with both my straight and gay friends. I wish you all luck in your endeavors.
