I tried it with the controller directly but it didn't help.  The ps3 is sitting 
on top of my dvr but I wouldn't think that would cause a problem, would it?  
Right now I'm using an old school tv until I get my hdtv.  The tv is a few 
inches above the ps3.

I'm also getting some noise in the sound output.  Could that be related?  I'm 
going to get a cheap dvd player to connect to the inputs that are currently 
being used by the ps3 to see if it is the ps3 or something else in the system.  
This is all old equipment I just pulled out of storage after several years so I 
don't know what might not be working.
