I'm not an expert but some of the engineers here say this is true depending
on the wind, speed he was flying at, what was mounted on the wings and all,
the plane will glide for a certain distance..

I know that is true of most aircraft, but is that also true of fighter 
jets?  My understanding was that they used different aerodynamic 
principles than "normal" aircraft to stay aloft?  Please correct me if 
I'm wrong as I'm certainly no expert in that area.
