Everybody already stole my comments, but one thing I'll note is that
the 985 is all anyone would need and it's cheaper than that Bowflex
revolution thing. It's got both a low row and a lat pull down, plus a
smith machine, built in weight trees, safety piers, and a pec deck
that's reversible for rear delts.

In other words, it can transition you from free weights -> smith -> cable.

I've added the hip sled and other stuff to make workouts easier and
give myself more flexibility, but for the life of me I can't
understand why anyone would buy one of those cable thingies when you
can have the 985. It's about $2500.

The hoist V6 is a "functional trainer" which means it allows you to
train for motions, i.e., sports.

For example, if you're looking to build muscle for your golf or
baseball swing. Or to take free weight motion to the next level by,
for example, allowing you to do bench presses while laying on a
exercise ball; talk about engaging your stabilizer muscles! Or do
assisted pull ups. Or improve balance. You could strengthen your
boxing jab or your football snap. It's for that type of stuff.

But it's not really a 1st machine type of thing. For that, get the 985.

If I was going to buy a "gym" thing I'd probably go with a Torque Fitness F5:

or maybe the TQ5
http://torquefitness.com/products/tq5.aspx

But everytime I use those things they just suck. I was never into
Nautilus. The Hoist V6 is a whoooole different deal though.

And as long as I"m blabbing and nobody is reading anymore anyway I'll
also add for cardio I have this thing:
http://www.cybexintl.com/Products/ta/630Ai/intro.aspx

It's a cross between a stair stepper and an elliptical trainer.
Basically the step height increases via a program or manually as you
"glide". At first you think, whatever, and then it kicks your ass.
And I got lucky and got the commercial version before they stopped
selling them to consumers. The one thing that sucks about it is that
you can't program your own program.
