I'm not sure if there's any way around this... although I'm not an expert.

One thing you definitely can do is use Access as a front-end to something a
bit beefier.  SQL Server Express is free and (especially considering you're
using Access now) should be perfect. I've not done it for a while, but I
remember it being insanely easy to do - the users see no changes.

That said I wouldn't be so sure that Access doesn't provide some capability
here... I just don't know what it is.
