You don't remember Bush having problems with confirmations?

Linda Chavez for Labor who, oops, turned out to have an illegal
immigrant nanny that she never paid employment taxes on. Spencer
Abraham for Energy who had sponsored a bill previously to abolish the
DOE. Bernard Kerik for Homeland Security who had an illegal alien
nanny and didn't pay taxes. Remember Harriet Meyers?

As for Daschle, he wasn't my first choice for the position but he was
chosen precisely because he has a long standing interest in health
care reform and because of his influence in the Senate. He was chosen
to guide healthcare reform through Congress. There was nothing
stealthy about it, it was entirely upfront.
