Ya, for some doing it yourself is best, for others who may not have the time
or gumption, a company might be the way to go. It's also pretty relative to
the individual site.

For instance I have a client who is a secondary market ticket broker.
There's ten of thousands of them out there and they are all using the same
keywords and hocking the same products. So getting them to stand out in the
Google crowd is exceedingly difficult.

I have another client who is the only major hot air balloon company in the
country, so you hardly need to do anything more than meta tags to get them
to the top of Google.
It's all relative baby!
