Good content (editorial means something here), legal html (even the stuff you don't know) and related files (policies, etc). That's really all you need. I've done 2 day seminars on these points but the bottom line is that Google deals in content. You have the content, they like you. You have the content in legal layout and they like you more. You have contextual html descriptors and links and they like you even more. And on and on and on. I'll ask Ben Nadel if he has a recording of my presentation on html for seo that I gave at the NYCFUG a few months back. It's a tiny little thing dealing with header info but it has a MASSIVE effect on how Google sees your site. Oh, and hire an editor to look at your content. Google pays attention to grammar. Oh, and watch the Google tools like webmaster tools and analytics. Oh, and learn basic html. No insult there. No one knows the basics because if they did they would be using it to its maximum effect. Oh, and I'm for hire. :)
Oh, and yes, I have not applied most of what I know or talk about to my own sites. I'd say that I suck but that would lead to a number of obscene posts as to my skills. ;) On Mon, Mar 9, 2009 at 10:41 AM, Matthew Smith <[email protected]>wrote: > > Client's new site is not doing well in search results and they are > complaining.
