I currently live in Sacramento. Rancho Cordova *IS* part of Sacramento for all intents an purposes.
There are a lot of nice places in and around Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Gold River, Fair Oaks. A little farther a field you have Placerville, Elk Grove, El Dorado Hills. The entire Sacramento region is pretty easy to get around. 15 to 30 minutes commute can open a lot of commuting options. We are the heart land of the housing bust. It is often considered to have started just south of here in Stockton. Housing prices have plumeted. You can get homes 50% or less then they where a year or two ago. 100-200K puts you into some nice starter homes... 300-400K starts getting you large house on large plots of land.
