There's a zillion programs out there so my advice would be to google
"best credit cards" and search through the links to find a card that
works best for you.

My wife is basically an expert at this so our cards optimized our
lifestyle. We have 2 cards:

(1.) Premier pass from here:
https://www.citicards.com/cards/wv/showSearchResults.do?category=CC_TRAVEL_REWARDS

It offers both travel reward benefits AND gift card type stuff. It
will consistently give you 2% back which, if you add pay for
everything via credit card like us, adds up to a LOT of money at years
end.

(2.) Our best card is our Hilton Honors American Express. It pays in
Hilton points like this:
- 3 points on every dollar spent
- 6 points grocery, drug, cell phone, gas stations
- 10 points for spending at a Hilton
- $20,000 in spending gets you gold status

We pay my wife's law school tuition, for example, on this card even
though doing so incurs a 2% fee. Working things like that basically
means we never pay to stay at a Hilton property any time we travel.

Of course we don't always stay at Hiltons, but one example is that 2
years ago we stayed at the Hilton on the Big Island, which I recommend
highly. Our 2 week stay was free, we were upgraded to one of the best
rooms there, we got all kinds of freebie comps, etc.

And all of that was essentially "paid for" through gas, groceries, other stuff.

We pay for EVERYTHING on credit cards. Everything. As long as you
can do that and not carry a balance it's a killer deal.
