Such an amusing idiot when it comes to these matters Gruss. Obama has
not ruled out a single payer solution. He said it was his preferred
version if he was building from the ground up but he thought that in
the current climate it wouldn't probably be politically feasible. And,
if you actually paid attention, you'd notice that I hadn't actually
been arguing for a single payer solution either but rather what is
known as a "public option" which is a government backed insurance
plan, ala medicare, that produces a national insurance risk pool.

Instead you are saying that all the smart people, i.e. Obama, dismiss
single payer while acknowledging that they are saying it is the best
possible option. Brilliant!

Seriously, I think that single payer is the way to go probably long
term. But perhaps not. As I said before, maybe private insurance will
come up with a way to meet the goals we are setting out. If so,
awesome. Otherwise, I expect people to give a public option a go. Not
all the difficult honestly.

You and Rob and (to a lesser extent) Scott have argued that single
payer is inherently stupid and that doctors are only in it for money
and would never back systematic healthcare reform with the government
as a primary insurance agent. I've shown that every single one of
those accusations is a bald face lie. If you'd like me to broaden out
from primary care physicians to other groups, fine. But the fact of
the matter is that I've shown the crap you are flinging is just that,
so calm down, think about actual data and deal.

There are lots of great questions about how we should restructure
health care in this country. We've briefly touched on some of them in
this thread, like the worries that a dominant insurance payer (private
or public) could artificially manipulate payments. That's a real
debate. The shit you're flinging isn't worth the monkey its thrown by.
