Yeah, the beauty of ketosis from a fat burning perspective is that you
essentially "train" your body to prefer fats for fuel instead of
carbs.

This is nice because if you have extra carbs not needed for fuel, your
body turns them to fat. Thus the freshman 15.

If, on the other hand, you have extra ketones in your body that you
don't need for fuel you just pee them out (or exhale them). And since
your body prefers fat for fuel, if you eat a deficit of calories, your
body burns your own fat.

Ketosis is a great way to lose fat quickly and safely - and you can
monitor it with "ketostix" that you buy from CVS or some-such. Tells
you exactly where you are and if you should increase of decrease
carbs.

The problem is, it's not easy.

Eating at 25-50g of carbs / day will take some getting used to (foggy
brain!) and at about the 10 day point most people will have digestion
problems. But if you power through it you'll be all set to really
lose some weight.

Anyway, since you're already doing that, if you have fat to lose it
might be a great time to do it however I"m not sure how diabetes
affects that, so, as always, check with your doc : )
