"Reform" to me means making the health care market work like every other market. What you're proposing is like saying that if the government takes over Visa credit card then we can all afford to get a new Plasma every year because a government-run Visa will somehow lower TV costs. Do we need a new plasma every year? Who knows, but the government will pay for it. Hopefully that sounds really stupid to you. But let's say we do get the public option. Guess who'll win the contract? Private Insurance! You either reform the supply side or you fail, and a public option won't even begin to touch that. It'll likely simply create a whole new system of grift. So I'm not saying EVERYTHING will fail, simply everything besides a well regulated market with consumer driven price controls.
