So what?  I never said that religion doesn't foster guilt.  Of course it does.

What I said is that you don't need to believe in God to feel guilty
about doing something wrong.

And whether that comes from a natural sense of right/wrong, or from
societal pressures (which probably do stem from religion), either way,
if you murder someone because you covet their spouse for yourself, you
shouldn't need the ten commandments to make you feel guilty about it.
Nor should you need the ten commandments to prevent you from doing it.

Of course, the problem is when you do something horrible in the name
of God... like an abortion clinic bomber, who feels NO guilt about the
consequences of his action.
