+++ a FREAKING QUADRILLION It is OUR job as WEB PEOPLE that PRESUME to know WTF we are talking about TO EDUCATE the consumer.
Everything else is whining and excuses. If you cant educate a client and lead them down the right path, you are failing in your duty as the business owner, employee, contractor, whatever. You are setting yourself up for failure because INEVITABLY that client gets introduced to some guy's whizz kid 15 year old prodigy at some stupid party and the kids talks up a storm about technology and websites and your client will be like "Why the hell didn't you tell me all this?!?!?!?!" and fire you and hire the kid, who in 6 months turns out to not know anything. And don't assume that client comes crawling back all the time. Some of them wouldn't because then they'd have to admit you were right. I don't know how to stress time and time and time again: EDUCATE YOUR CLIENTS!!!!! KNOW THE INDUSTRY!!!! DO YOUR R&D!!!! It is NOT enough to work 9-5 plugging away on only billable stuff. YOU HAVE to constantly spend time to EDUCATE yourself on your own dime to make sure that you can keep plugging away on billable stuff. /rant over.
