I think people are more inclined to seek out media that agrees with
them and use the stories as justification for their beliefs and
behavior, than to actually develop beliefs and behavior based on the
media.  Cart before the horse.  If someone hears disinformation that
supports their position, they are more likely to believe it, and
forward it to everyone in on their email list.

Actions like flying airplanes into buildings are taken by those who
are so caught up their disillusions they can see no other way.  This
guy convinced HIMSELF that violence was the only answer.  He may have
used information obtained from the media to support that decision, but
the media didn't brainwash him into it.
