Few people are in the camp it's one or the other.

Most creationists, so I've read, believe they co-exist. Evolution
doesn't cover the beginning, just what happens after. While some
creationist believe the world started 6k years ago most do not, so
I've read :)

But you're referring to the literalists, the ones that believe what's
printed is fact not a story told down over generations. I know little
about that but it's been explained on this list before. I don't
believe they have great numbers and I agree they are fools.
