"Prop 13 turned the voters into the 'cronies' - sticking it to others. Congrats Californians who voted for Prop 13, you are not just as corrupt as the people you despised!"
I don't see that you can call the people who voted for this 30 years ago corrupt. Shortsighted? Yeah. Angry? Definitely. They probably had no idea of the long term consequences of the action. At the same time, the people who are now benefiting aren't corrupt. Selfish maybe, but not corrupt. A very small percentage of people are going to stand up and say "Please tax me more." The cronies argument is a little weak. Generally, elected representatives should listen to their constituents. There are times when it might be necessary to go against the tide, but it's too late in this case. The people like this proposition. They wanted it. They got it. Of course, there are consequences for this and the voters and state have to accept those responsibilities. If it is huge budget crises, so be it. For those who didn't get to vote, c'est la vie. As for the outsiders, I don't know what to say. I am sure they have heard all of these and it probably doesn't help knowing that your tax burden is 10 times higher than your neighbors: Tax assessors shouldn't have been corrupt. The counties shouldn't have spend so freely meaning they would not need higher property taxes,. The law should have been studied in more detail so future consequences could be predicted. Don't feed the machine, move to another state. Regardless, it seems like CA is going to have a mess for years to come dealing with finances and this issue in regards to it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology-Michael-Dinowitz/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:318826 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
