I understand the point you're trying to making and I never said "all
cops are bad". I was pointing out that your analogy doesn't hold
water.

I've known some fine police officers, they serve a very important role
in our community and they do an immensely hard job. It is, without a
doubt, the sort of job where you get publicly trashed when things go
wrong but rarely see public praise for all the little things that make
the community a better place.

I don't think that "cops" are bad, I think that the police departments
in a number of places (at least the ones I've lived in) foster an
ongoing culture that ends up producing officers which are dangerous
and a discredit to their job and the community. The same thing could
be said for politics. We have talked a number of times about all the
corrupting influences found in politics and have generally decried the
state of politics. That doesn't mean that there aren't a number of
dedicated public servants who are genuinely trying to be responsive to
their constitutients and do the best thing for the people they serve
and the country at large.

It's not about hating all cops, far from it. It's about wanting the
police to step up, self police, and be the shining light they ought to
be.
