My wife would disagree with you. She swears up and down that my Debian setup is easier to run than Windows once you get used to it. She has her own laptop with Windows 7 on it and she still prefers my desktop. Add to that the fact that Ubuntu is far easier to use for most people than my setup with its fluxbox interface and config files for everything. I'm not sure what's still holding Ubuntu back at this point, but it's not the ability of the less-than-savy masses being able to run it anymore.
I suppose that my wife is unusual in that she had the benefit of a long time Linux geek to hold her hand while she was scaling the learning curve, but getting over that curve is no different than moving from Windows to OSX or vice versa. -----Original Message----- From: Eric Roberts [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, October 29, 2010 1:28 PM To: cf-community Subject: RE: Ubuntu 10.10 ui While Ubuntu certainly is pretty and one of the best distro's of Linux by far, I still think it has a very long time before it is ready for prime time for anyone besides us geeks ;-) I can't imagine my parents or even my wife using it for instance... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:330600 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
