Not quite, but almost. There are still a few things that you can't easily do without dropping to a command line or resorting to some other geek technique, and there are some things (notably peripherals) that don't have drivers or are otherwise difficult to deal with in Linux. The biggest improvements have been around consumer-oriented computing like managing photos and music, wireless connections, and adding/updating software. It's remarkable what OSS has accomplished making Linux a competitive desktop OS when you consider that Microsoft spends several billion dollars a year on research. I still believe that one day Microsoft could be fighting for its very survival because they clung for too long to an outdated business model and failed to capitalize on their money and expertise by building a viable business in the Internet space. They are pouring money into their cloud strategy, search, and enterprise, and maybe that's the move that will give them a way forward, but the flood of easy money from Windows and Office licenses is not going to continue forever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:330619 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
