The NCAA is (extremely) hypocritical, however their products tend to be
fantastic (in my opinion). Subjectively, I think the big 3 of Football,
Basketball and Baseball are all more enjoyable to watch in their college
form vs. their pro counterparts. While the skill levels in the pro's
are ridiculous, the overall product just doesn't work for me. I think it's
mostly a result of the pageantry of college sports.

On the subject, while with the NCAA, there seems to be a direct correlation
between how much money you make to how much you can you get away with as a
school, this Miami thing is way over the top. This could napalm their
program out of existence (SMU). Miami's president has already limited
their recruiting in the last 5 (or so?) years with more
strict academic guidelines. I get the feeling that she is (an always has
been) extremely embarrassed by Miami's "thug" image that the program has
lovingly embraced (and cultivated) since the 80's. It seems that she is the
one person in that school who has actively tried to eliminate (and distance
herself from) the negative perception of the football team.

At the very least, this is going to be interesting to watch to see how
everything play's out.
